The Power of Values: Guiding The Way We Work Together

20/03/2020By Kit Taylor
The global COVID-19 pandemic is dominating all our lives at present – businesses, families and communities are being affected in many ways as we navigate unprecedented waters.

One of the things that has struck me most is the power of values. Those fundamental beliefs that guide our behaviours and attitudes, defining our relationships with those around us. In amongst the headlines we hear many positive stories in which people are helping and supporting one another through this crisis.

Our industry is the exchange of services, expertise, networks and knowledge that result in a successful hire, paid for by our clients. However, within the broader value chain, our support of candidates throughout the recruitment process is of crucial importance, particularly in times like these.

When I was interviewed for my first job in executive search (many years ago now!) the CEO of the company told me that the real reward of the job was “the ability to change someone’s life” when securing them a role. Of course, we can make a huge difference this way, but in any process, there will also be immense disappointment for some. For me, that original nugget of wisdom has grown into a far greater quest to deliver candidates a rich and rewarding experience irrespective of the final outcome.

There will no doubt be candidates reading this who have worked with psd Sport, or our Consultants in other specialist areas. I would like to think that the common theme to all has been a supportive, empathetic and positive experience. Responding punctually and courteously to an applicant’s call or email at the start of a project is as important as providing empathy, support, advice, feedback at the end of the process and beyond.

By working as partners – treating each other with respect and communicating honestly – we discover what’s truly possible. In these trying times, this core value will perhaps become more important than ever.

We are likely to see a great deal of change across the sporting landscape, and recruitment in general across the coming months. Our core values Adaptable, Partners, Open-minded, Accessible, Committed and Success will guide the way we work and interact with our clients, candidates and colleagues.

By working as partners – treating each other with respect and communicating honestly – we discover what’s truly possible. In these trying times, this core value will perhaps become more important than ever, as there will be inevitable disruption to all the sectors in which we specialise.

By being Adaptable and Committed we will work closely with our clients across the sporting sector to support them with immediate workforce challenges, future talent planning and commercial growth objectives.  Equally, our 360 approach to the candidate experience will become more important than ever.

What our clients say:

First class. At all stages I felt fully up to speed with all activity, which is vitally important in this type of relationship. Genuine, honest and helpful feedback was given at every request and I could find no fault with the experience and would have no hesitation recommending in future.
