This year was the 13th anniversary of Sports Podge, a unique event held to celebrate the relationships that are forged through sport. Over the past 5 years psd has proudly supported Sports Podge.

What is Sports Podge and why do psd support this event?

Many would agree with me when I say Sports Podge is the “must attend” event of the sporting calendar.  Sports Podge is an invitation only event for 250 business leaders and personalities from the world of sport.  It provides an opportunity to network and build new relationships in an informal and truly unique setting. The guest list varies from year to year which gives us the opportunity to meet new people every time.

What were the highlights from this year’s event?

A hugely impressive range of high profile attendees were at the event.

Everyone listened in awe to John McAvoy who told of his fascinating journey from a troubled early life and prison, to world class athlete and the only Nike sponsored triathlete in the world.

It simply summed up the power of Sport to everyone lucky enough to be there to hear this inspiring story of redemption.  We were also treated to a fantastic poem by Mike Garry the Mancunian Poet, who will be writing a poem for the opening match of the World Cup.

PSD Sport have supported Sports Podge for 5 years – how have the events evolved?

The event always has a different theme, and is always relaxed, fun and enjoyable. At least half of the room are “new” attendees every year, ensuring the opportunity for everyone to forge new relationships. Through our partnership with Sports Podge we have been privileged to meet a range of people who have now become both Clients and Candidates, and the overall style of the event has very much helped to enhance the brand positioning of psd Sport.

Where has psd Sport seen success since Sports Podge 2017?

psd Sport continues to go from strength to strength working with a broad range of Clients and on different types of roles across the sporting landscape.

We have delivered on a number of significant projects including; Chief Commercial Officer – Gloucester Rugby, Sales Director – Southampton Football Club, Financial Controller – Dugout and Head of Content – Perform.  We were grateful to come away from the event having met some fantastic people and look forward to building on these new relationships.

What trends should we look out for in sports recruitment in 2018?

As ever there is always a strong demand for commercial expertise and particularly so with regards to driving fan engagement and gaining greater insight into consumer needs. As a result many of our searches for candidates focus on a broad range of sectors to ensure that the greatest available talent can be sourced.

Safeguarding is another core area which many organisations are conscious of improving and we expect to see a significant shift in the level of expertise sought to oversee this crucial area.
