We have a current opportunity for a Management Accountant ( Kent) on a permanent basis. The position will be based in Tonbridge. For further information about this position please apply.

Our client is an established residential developer operating across within Southeast region, currently seeking a qualified Management Accountant who will join a small but dynamic team. The candidate will undertake all aspects of financial management and will demonstrate strong reporting, cost control, management accounts, the process improvement and business partnering capabilities. The knowledge of SAGE would be advantageous. The role offers the fast career progression to Financial Controller due to succession plan of the business. The role will report direct to the Finance Director and will manage a team of 1.

Key responsibilities for the new Appointee will include: 

Core finance function:

• Preparation of monthly management accounts including journal processing, balance sheet, profit & loss, variance analysis commentary, and associated reconciliations
• Preparation of monthly management information pack
• Maintain the financial reporting calendar
• Responsible for co-ordinating statutory returns including VAT, CIS, CITB, confirmation statements
• Preparation of payroll files for processing by the external agent
• Maintenance of all company statutory registers including actioning director changes or share transfers through the Companies House portal
• Assistance with the annual business plan (the budget) including working closely with the departments to prepare a bottom up forecast of requirements
• Input into cashflow management and reporting
• Highlighting risks and opportunities across the business in terms of process, financial and reputational impact
• Business partnering with other departments to improve processes, controls, and understanding of the financial position and performance of the company
• Maintain the finance process manual
• Support the executive leadership team in the understanding of financial information
• Assist with the annual audit process
• Ensure efficient maintenance of the accounting system/ledgers
• Involvement in the land and development appraisals process
• Management of the bank mandates and all banking administration

Supporting the Finance Director:

• Assist with the administrative duties associated with new funding and project acquisitions
• Feedback department information which may impact cash flow, process efficiency, reputation, or the control environment
• Assist with business plan preparation including the collation of department submissions
• Assist with the review of development and future business appraisals
• Deputise at meetings as required
• Maintain the Finance reporting calendar and communicate any conflicts or issues to the FD

Business Partnering:

• Promote cost awareness and value recognition across business
• Enhance management reporting where the need exists in the business
• Identify process shortfalls and business partner with other departments to develop appropriate solutions
• Represent Finance and positively engage at project meetings
• Successfully implement the transition from Sage to new system to ensure a solution which works for Finance and all other departments with minimal impact to business operations
• Willingly lead/participate in wider team meetings (e.g. project reviews, forecast meetings)

The Successful Candidate will be/have: 

• Qualified or studying accountant with relevant industry experience
• Must have experience in property accounting (Sage experience would be advantageous)
• Excellent verbal, written, and IT skills (proficient Excel user)
• Honesty and open individual who is as comfortable sharing concerns as they are sharing achievements
• Financial modelling experience
• Comfortable with challenging business assumptions and ways of working, including managing upwards to senior members of management
• Ability to communicate financial concepts to non-financial colleagues
• Be able to work under pressure with the ability to problem solve and multi task

• Possess commercial acumen to challenge and drive non-financial decision making throughout the business

• Displaying the principles of trust, transparency, balance and exacting attention to detail
• Delivering timely and cost effective services to the wider Fernham Homes team
• Striving to exceed targets and KPIs, and driving forward efficiency gains in process across the business
• Communicating clearly and ensuring the wider business is consulted and informed appropriately
