Post Office Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal Mail Group Ltd and operates under the Post Office® brand. Managing a nationwide network of around 12,000 Post Office® branches, it is the largest Post Office network in Europe and the largest retail branch network in the UK handling more cash than any other business.
The Recruitment Challenge
The Post Office approached PSD to recruit over 30 change and information systems professionals within a four month period. This was a complex recruitment project that required the creation of a competency framework and the assessment and benchmarking of both external and internal candidates.
PSD designed a blended campaign of national advertising in traditional media, web advertising, database and executive search.
All candidates passed through an Assessment Centre held, hosted and managed by PSD. The assessments comprised both behavioural and technical interviews, case studies and presentations all designed to give a rounded picture of the candidates strengths and areas for development. All interviews were based around an agreed competency framework and the results of the interviews combined with the outcomes of online numerical and verbal reasoning tests. Successful candidates then visited the Post Office offices and the offer process completed within 7 days.
PSD recruited 30 new team members for a range of positions including:
- Programmes Managers
- Project Managers
- Business Analysts
- Business Partners
- Change Managers
All of the 30 candidates successfully started work with the Post Office and several have subsequently taken roles with further responsibility. The process met the need for a step change in quality and competency while maintaining the behavioural and cultural balance within the organisation. PSD received positive feedback on the process from both the Post Office and the candidates.
