2016-04-15

PSD Group welcomed Olympic Rower and Access Sport Ambassador - Greg Searle MBE, and Julian Barrell - Development Director, to their London head office.

Greg SearleGreg spoke about the fantastic work Access Sport provide across the UK, and explained the various activities PSD employees can get involved in to help raise money for the charity.

Access Sport is unlocking the power of community sports clubs, helping them to develop and grow into thriving, inclusive and permanent resources for the wider community, acting as a beacon of hope and changing lives.

AccessSport LogoAccess Sport is a UK-based sports charity which enhances the life prospects of disadvantaged children and young people, by providing opportunities for them to experience and enjoy the power of sport.

The number of children and young people engaged in sport in the UK today is in rapid decline, causing record levels of childhood obesity and marginalisation of the poor and vulnerable. Access SPort 3Access Sport is tackling this head-on by developing community sports clubs in deprived urban areas across the UK. This enables them to tackle inactivity and social exclusion, while providing support to vulnerable young people, such as those with disabilities.

Access Sport believes every young person should be able to access sport and experience the power it can have in enhancing their life prospects.

This charitable partnership with PSD will enable Access Sport to bring the enjoyment of sport to hundreds more disadvantaged children and young people. This will not only directly improve their life chances but also affect community regeneration in the areas in which they live.

Access Sport achieves this by providing:

AccessSport 4
  • Capital - providing funds to invest in vital equipment
  • Training - up-skilling volunteers and training new coaches
  • Partnerships - building important collaborations with other local organisations
  • Expertise - a full range of advice and expertise to improve sustainability

Last year Access Sport supported over 200 community sports clubs and, as a result, over 12,000 disadvantaged young people, thereby providing life changing opportunities at a cost of roughly £100 per young person.

Over the next few months, PSD will start holding events to raise money for Access Sport, so return to this page to view updates on our fundraising achievements.

A big thank you to Access Sport, Greg Searle and Julian Barrell for inspiring our employees!
