Since joining PSD as a Consultant 15 years ago, I have enjoyed a hugely rewarding career. I have fulfilled many personal professional ambitions, not least building a hugely successful Sport Practice that is regarded by many as best in the field. Freedom and opportunity for professional development has been core to this success as well as the fantastic input, mentoring and support from the leadership team. I enjoy the culture here – the energy and the collaborations that occur across sectors and functions. The Sport Practice has significant ambition for future growth. Coupled with the strong positioning of the PSD brand, the hugely positive internal culture and drive for success and, not least, some outstanding colleagues to work alongside, greater levels of success and achievement lie ahead.
I have worked for PSD for 12 years. I joined as a Senior Consultant and have progressed through to Principal Consultant, and am now an Associate Director and shareholder in the business. Over the years my experience, skills and confidence have increased and this has allowed me to work on more and more senior appointments, both in terms of level and remuneration. On my induction I completed the Consultant Development Programme and then was invited to take the Personal Development Programme, then finally the Management Development Programme. I remember the content of these training programmes which included buying signals, closing a deal and the features and benefits of our recruitment services. I have kept all the documentation from these training courses and still refer to them. They have certainly helped me with my career progression and success at PSD. The Residential Development market is highly competitive and fast paced which means I am constantly challenged and need to move quickly when representing clients. This keeps me engaged and provides me with an immense feeling of satisfaction. I have enjoyed many career milestones whilst at PSD and am thankful for the wonderful group of people that I work with. We work collaboratively, sharing our market knowledge and candidates to ensure success. There are a number of new clients that I am keen to work with during the coming year, and so I remain focused and motivated in order to achieve these goals.
I started working for PSD two and a half years ago as a Consultant and progressed to a Senior Consultant within a year. The structured induction plan that was put in place, helped me settle in quickly and since then there have been a number of productive and insightful courses made available to me. These have significantly helped with my career progression, along with monthly one-to-ones with my manager where we discuss targets, key accounts and new business objectives. The open communication and direction from management aided me to gain my promotion and to work on senior-level roles within the industry. What I really enjoy about my job, is the people that I work with, my team, candidates and clients, as well as the variety of roles that we work on. I work in a fantastic team and enjoy the support that we provide for one another. We have individual and team budgets so this is important. I work in a fun atmosphere and my team has been rewarded for our hard work and successes. I hope to continue to progress and build my network and profile within the hotel sector.
I came to PSD as a candidate within the international Food & Beverage sector. PSD suggested that I join the company as a Senior Consultant, specialising in Food & Beverage, Culinary and General Management. After working in the luxury hospitality industry for over 10 years, I felt that it was the perfect opportunity to utilise my industry knowledge and first-hand experience to assist clients in filling key executive roles, and help candidates find their next career challenge. I moved from Bangkok to London to take the position that PSD offered me and I have been with the company for just over three years. My skills and network were completely transferable to my role in recruitment. Having worked in Food & Beverage Management and Marketing & Events roles for elite organisations around the world, I have a well-rounded experience of the International Luxury Hospitality sector, an expert knowledge of Food & Beverage and Culinary, and a strong awareness of cultural differences. I have a clear understanding of client and candidate expectations, as well as the impact clients want to make on guest experiences through the careful recruitment of key roles. Having hands-on experience, an expert knowledge of Food & Beverage, Operations and Management, is crucial when taking a brief for an international vacancy. It reassures our clients and candidates and it allows me to gain their trust , which is crucial for my success in recruitment.
I joined PSD as a graduate just over two years ago. I had a small amount of sales experience but was unsure of how I could best apply myself and progress in a future career. Having the right attitude, work ethic, ambition and willingness to learn has allowed me to thrive. PSD has given me the opportunity to work collegially with senior management on projects, successfully develop and build my network in the Technology sector, and has enabled me to successfully place mid to executive-level talent across companies internationally. I have benefited from the training and long-term investment PSD commit to their employees and have become a specialist in my market. As a young professional starting out in the industry, this training and support has been invaluable. Recruitment has allowed me to utilise and leverage my sales experience, network with high-calibre individuals and get a head start in the professional working world.

I returned to the UK last year after nearly 20 years in the Gulf in Oman, Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Dubai, working for IHG, Ritz-Carlton and Fairmont amongst others - all within the sales and marketing field. Although I have not worked directly for a recruitment company before my career at PSD, I had established a global network of contacts over the years, and of course recruited many sales and marketing professionals myself, often using UK sourcing firms. This means I have a fantastic insight into the client perspective. When I heard our Managing Director was looking to expand the International team, I applied and was fortunate to join the team in January this year.

Dealing with people face-to-face and over the telephone was one of the aspects that was immediately transferable - this was very much what I’d been used to in previous sales and marketing roles. The interview process was also familiar as it was reaching out to potential clients. I found speaking with clients based in the countries where I’d previously worked particularly helpful - this helped me understand the individual nuances of the role and the expectations of the ideal candidate profile. I was also familiar with many of their hotels, which certainly helped.

One area that I was thankful for was the level of training at PSD - from system and interview process training, to assistance with understanding personality profiles. I now feel totally at ease with the role and I’m enjoying the interaction with clients and candidates - it is tremendously rewarding when I find a perfect match between the two.

I look forward to building on my successes to date, and hope in the future I’ll be able to source more candidates for existing clients, and introduce more hotel clients to our portfolio. Working internationally is very rewarding - even if one area of the world is suffering economically, another area will be buoyant, therefore there’s always work to be done!
